South Yorkshire League Cup Final
Christ Church V Rotherham Stars
Monday 27th June, Davy's Sports Centre - What a cup final to remember
As Christ Church went into bat first Jodie Snelson, a cracking player scored 19.5 rounders on her own. The total score for Christ Church was 23 rounders after their first batting innings. Rotherham Stars then went into bat, under pressure after an amazing first innings by the opposition. Rotherham scored only 9 rounders in the first innings forcing them to bat first in the second innings. A brilliant second innings performance for the stars (they really worked together and watched for the gaps in the field to sneak those half rounders at second post) saw them score an impressive 22.5 rounders, taking their score to 31.5. Christ Church came into bat, all they needed was 9 rounders to win the game, but with great bowling from Sarah Hobson Christ Church couldn’t make contact with the ball and with an unbelievable catch by Laura Booth, Rotherham Stars made an incredible turn around to win the game with a final score of 31.5 to 30. Many thanks go to all the support from families and friends, and also to Heather Hawes for giving up her time to coach the Rotherham Stars.
The South Yorkshire league is still going strong; the games are played at a very high standard and are delightful to watch with many players across several teams making England selection this season. Congratulations goes to Rotherham Stars and Christ Church for qualifying to play in the ladies nationals due to being joint top of the South Yorkshire league…WELL DONE!
